The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, also known as the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill, is a hasty piece of legislation from Congress that will result in a hidden tax on numerous forms of energy; including the fuels we use everyday. It places an arbitrary price on all carbon emissions that will be passed on to energy consumers; a price that will fluctuate wildly at the whim of Wall Street traders.
Farmers, truckers, small businesses, freight haulers, delivery services and families will feel the effect of higher fuel costs as gasoline, diesel, airline fuel, and home heating oil prices increase. This flawed cap-and-trade bill will hurt citizens and business owners who rely on motor vehicles and transportation – in the process destroying jobs, and damaging our already troubled economy. Plain and simple, the burden of the legislation will fall on citizens like you.
