Best health care system at risk |
|
Dear Editor, Are we going to throw the baby out with the bathwater….again? We have the best Health Care System in the World. We are the envy, of the rest of the world. Do we have problems in it? Of course. But for this Administration to want to throw out the whole system for about 4 million people is ludicrous. It would be cheaper, by far, just to pay their insurance payments! Since I retired from CHS, my wife and I have paid out a lot more in Health Insurance Premiums than I thought we would. Part of the problem was some bad choices I made. But we are insured. In case something catastrophic happens. Anyone in the U.S. can go to the Emergency Room for treatment and the Hospital can’t turn them away; you don’t even have to be citizen of America. Why don’t you try that in any other country? I believe there are some common sense things that should be tried first. 1.) Get a handle on fraud. Billions are spent every year because of unscrupulous practices. Common sense also tells me that $2.00 for an aspirin when you’re in the hospital may not be fraud, but it sure points to a certain amount of greed. 2.) Tort Reform. All across the spectrum, frivolous law suits are costing us billions. Fully $50on each football helmet is figured in to fight law suits. Over $500 on the cost of a new automobile. And I have no idea what Medical Malpractice and other like types of insurance is costing us. 3.) Portability. To be able to keep the same insurance when we move from one job to another or one state to another. To keep it if we’re laid off. So let’s try a few common sense ideas rather than trying to ram something down our throats that our grandkids and great grandkids are going to pay for! Dale Blom Laurel |
